Kinogaeru - Frog Lord? Didn't you create a fan card with the exact same art and almost exact same name?
And Noble Wyrm? Wouldn't Noble Wyvern have worked just as well. Although, if you're not using it then I'll create a Warlord Wyvern card.
Aarikku
It's not a Wyvern. Wyverns have legs. And I really don't see why a Warlord Wyvern is necessary - the two dragon themes are too similar as is.
And about Kinogaeru, I changed the eyes. But, yeah. Same creature. It was too nice art (and already in exactly the same style as Shmod) to ignore. The effect's completely different, and a bajillion times better.
UPDATE: One blur card, one unblur card and one sketch! Other card games never let you see art in progress. Wait, no, Magic the Gathering does. But Yugioh doesn't.
Mo-Kin is another knight of the same faction as Tora. I know, it looks decent at best now. A lot of the magic happens in Photoshop.
So, any interesting guesses as to effects, or good questions?

I know what a wyvern is; I meant making the creature itself a Wyvern as opposed to a wyrm. Wyverns are cooler.
And the similarities are things I'm trying to diffuse. Your creature is a Cost 1 1000/1000 Fire Dragon. Mine most certainly would not be.
| Aarikku wrote: | | Mo-Kin is another knight of the same faction as Tora. I know, it looks decent at best now. A lot of the magic happens in Photoshop. |
Yeah, all your cards look good becuse of your Photoshop program. If I had computer software too then you wouldn't think my art was a [censored] disaster, now would you?! You ever tried working on a card image start-to-finish Aarikku?
| Aarikku wrote: | | So, any interesting guesses as to effects, or good questions? |
No guesses as to the effects, just 1 question; is this the set you're using to instate the [Emperor] category?
Aarikku
I wanted to avoid Noble Wyrm/Wyvern seeming too much like Red-eyes Wyvern from Yugioh GX. I probably shouldn't worry too much about anime-only cards, though.
Your art would be a lot better in Photoshop. See if you can get a tablet; they come with it.
Yes, the Emperor category'll be in here. They won't be very supported - maybe a searcher or something. It's more along the lines of a title for really awesome boss cards. As a preview, check out the remastered [Lord De Luxe].
I have no plans to create the other Ramen monsters. Though if I do, they'll just be Food support instead of an archetype. Thoughts?
Naardaas
I like the idea of revamping cards. You should redo Lucior so that it no longer requires the Sin Demons. Or perhaps remake other cards. It's not like there's any law against it.
Oh, and Red-Eyes Wyvern isn't Anime-Only anymore. It's going to be made as a promo for Tag Force 3.
Aarikku
I read that just after I posted. Neat, eh? I hope they un-nerf it.
And I know you love Lucior, but it's very hard to draw. And no, I'm not letting you do my series' villain's main card.
Naardaas
You said Skeetal Chimera was hard to draw too, yet you still did it. And I bet Omega Ninth wasn't a cake-walk either.
Aarikku
Chimera just took a hell of a long time to design. Omega wasn't as hard as it looked, but yeah, still hard.
Naardaas
My point exactly.
Aarikku
Eh, you've been sending me a few more cards... so if you want to work on a Shmod Apocalypse pack, feel free to start a thread. My only rule is no more than 1 Secret Rare.
Naardaas
Speaking of which, what'd ya think of Emperor Scorpion?
Aarikku
It DOES look like a Scorpion. The perspective seems a bit funny, but the creature itself looks good.
Naardaas
Glad to hear it.
Any more cards from series 005 you wanna show off?
Aarikku
Why not?
Naardaas
Nice. Looks cool.
Aarikku
Thanks.
Naardaas
I took a good look at Noble Wyrm, and I think I've deciphered the effect:
'When this card is destroyed, add 1 [Noble Dragon] from your Deck to your hand.'
Aarikku
Nope. That would look like this (text and blurred text end at different places, ignoring flavour text):
You did get a good portion of the effect, though.
Naardaas
Well I try. After I got that much, though, I couldn't read it anymore. I'll try the others and see what I get.
EDIT: The card says "Deck or Graveyard", not just "Deck".
Aarikku
Nice. Any other guesses?
Naardaas
I can't read the full effects of any of the remaining cards. Tora I believe is [Scrap 1 FIRE monster to play this card from your hand without tapping Mana], but that's probably wrong. Both Kinogaeru and Salamander start with [When you play this card], but I'm giving myself a headache trying to read these.
Aarikku
Tora's got another line, but that's most of it. And yeah, Kinogaeru and Salamander both do start with that.
Naardaas
Again, I try.
While we're here, any more cards for the set to show off?
Aarikku
Sure, but I can't do too many of these. It's hard to catch up, especially with all the people I have to draw -_-;
Aarikku
Behold! A new archetype trying to compete for the throne.
The cards were invented due to too much caffeine and too little inspiration. But they're still going in the set.
Naardaas
Oh my [censored] Lord. I couldn't have come up with this OD'ing on my pysche meds man.
I'm not saying it's bad. I do like the effects. They just seem kinda [censored].
Aarikku
They're tsukumogamis - an ancient Japanese myth in which objects turned alive during their 100th birthday. During said transformation, they'd normally obtain eyes or mouths.
EDIT: Mo-Kin's arm has been edited. Took me frickin' forever. I hate drawing people.
Aarikku
First off, another knight...
Secondly, a new art tsukumogami...
And finally, an Element support card that I used back in first- and second-generation Shmod.
Naardaas
Sweet.
Any new cards, Card Meistro?
Aarikku
Sure.
Naardaas
Very cool.
You can unblur Tora. It appeared in your double-chapter.
Aarikku
Right. I meant to do that.
Random trivia alert! Originally, Tora the Soldier was called [Conflagra, the Warrior]. But while I was making the Knight series, I needed an idea for a Level One FIRE Knight, and just turned Conflagra into Tora. Which helped, because I had no idea what Conflagra was supposed to look like.
Naardaas
Are you going to make a large set of Contact Combinations in this game. Because that's the second one I've seen recently.
Aarikku
Nah. Skeletal Knight was to make Shadow Necromancy an even better opening play than it already is. Behold!
-Player A plays a Cloudrunner in attack mode.
-Player B discards 4 cards for Shadow Necromancy. Pulls out all four Skeletons. Swordsman attacks through Cloudrunner, the other Skeletons attack for 3. Main Step 2, player B fuses Swordsman and Shielder into Skeletal Knight. Now, Player A has no monsters, and is up against three Skeletons, two of which can't be attacked without breaking through the 2800-ATK one.
Artist Knight's a "contact fusion" because it's not really a new monster, it's just a battle position using three monsters.
Naardaas
One last thing; you haven't posted Eraserman yet.
Aarikku
I know. You asked for a new card, not cards. But whatever.
Naardaas
My appologies Living Art Guru.
Makes sense.
Aarikku
Added a couple more.
Shmod never had enough Traps.
Naardaas
Panda-Jitsu is what it always was.
I like the Slime Trap. It's our answer to [Dimensional Prison].
Aarikku
*sigh*
No, it's not. It's nothing like Dimensional Prison.
Naardaas
Wait, no... I'm confusing my effects. I think there's a card from the anime that's this effect, more-or-less.
Aarikku
Whatever. Anywho, the snail throws its slime at the opponent, who is then covered in slime. This should probably just make said target unable to attack and switch positions and stuff, but I figured Snails could use a better effect than that. So the slime is magic and sends said target into another dimension, from which they return if the snail casting the magic is destroyed.
See, that's the kind of thought I put into these. It's not just "Oh, Shmod needs a Dimensional Prison. I think I'll draw slime." No, it's a lot of effort. And that's why it bugs me when you compare everything to a Yugioh card.
Naardaas
Now you're making assumptions. When I say it's our answer to a card, I mean it's a card that fills the same role as the card I mentioned. Not that it's a blatant carbon copy. And with Slime Trap, you can take an attacking creature and send it to Econtra.
Anyway, anything else for Heir to the Throne? Hey, I suppose by this point, ya may as well just put all the cards in your original post.
Aarikku
Semantics.
Anyway, added two more cards. Borix - the Frog Sage and Tranquil Meditation. The latter has some pretty good art, in my opinion.
Naardaas
Aye, that it does.
Aarikku
Two edits and a new card!
Viscous Warrior now adds 2 Slime Counters to a monster when it's destroyed. 'Cuz that's what it did in the early plannings, and there's no reason for it not to.
Slime Trap now just destroys the monster. It's simpler, and much better.
Finally, a new Slime monster! Incidentally, I'm working on the Snail/Slime theme currently.
Naardaas
One question Slime Ball. Why does a Cost 1 creatures have an effect that gives him a Converted Mana Cost of 1? It doesn't make sense.
Oh, and I have an idea for a Slime Card. Do you know what a Slimemold is?
Aarikku
Whoops. Typo. It's supposed to make it Cost 0. And Slime molds are lame. They're just blobs. Of slime.
Naardaas
Okay. Do you know what a hagfish is?
Aarikku
Boring eel thingies? No thanks. It's a SNAIL/Slime theme.
Naardaas
I don't think you understand where I'm going with this.
(Cost One) Hagfish, the Slime Mold (Light)
Category: Slime
Effect: When this card is destroyed, add Slime Counters to a monster on the field equal to the Level of the monster that destroyed it.
ATK/ 1000
DEF/ 1000
Keep in mind, this is a loose idea.
Aarikku
Why would a hagfish be a slime mold? I don't think they're even part of the same Kingdom. The card's not bad, but I'm not big on throwing a random hagfish into the middle of a snail theme.
I surprised you haven't suggested Slime Dragon yet.
Naardaas
That would be completely pointless. The game has enough Dragon themes. It doesn't need a Dragon in every series.
Naardaas
I suppose while we're here I should ask how the rest of your cards are coming along.
Aarikku
I'm done all the Knight monsters (finally), and the others are... coming.
Naardaas
It's good to hear things are finally coming together.
Naardaas
Do you have any that are deady for posting?
Aarikku
I'm workin' on one now - another themeless destruction card.
Naardaas
Themeless destruction... you have my attention. How would you rate it on a scale of 1 to 10?
Aarikku
Well, I haven't 100%'d the effect yet, but it's best for decks with small monsters that don't have a way to take down some of the bigger monsters.
Something like:
Select a monster you control; it can't attack this turn. Destroy 1 monster.
And I'm struggling with Mana costs and stuff.
Naardaas
How about:
(Cost Two) Rebellion of Tribes
Spell
Select a monster you control; it can't attack this turn. Destroy 1 monster.
Aarikku
First off, I've already got the name and picture. And the picture is EPIC. Secondly, wouldn't that make it a really good version of Sar-Chasm?
Well, until we come up with some other cost/restriction thing:
Naardaas
That thing is SWEEEEEEEET!
I'd love to see myself trump that thing. Until then, got any other cards to add?
Aarikku

And the award for the easiest Shmod card to draw goes to...
Naardaas
Wow... I never thought I'd see a stck drawing on lined paper in this game. Either that's a quirk or you don't take the card seriously. I hope it's the former.
Aarikku
Kinda both, actually. The art supplies aren't really meant to be the most serious theme in the game.
Naardaas
I know, but... it kinda seems like they're mocking the integrity of artism.
Aarikku
Many-a year ago, my ancient Element deck contained four specialized techniques, each picturing one of the four basic Elements.
Now, they're remastered with new effects and colourshopping!

Naardaas
* Fire Technique - Mana Blaze
* Water Technique - Mana Spring
* Earth Technique - Avalanche
* Air Technique - Whirlwinds
Cool. Can't wait to see the effects.
Aarikku
Format of first post changed to regular set format, and added the Snails.
Naardaas
You don't have an idea for a Secret Rare yet? Well, since this set features Knights and introduces Emperors, I assume you have a boss card for the Knights. Perhaps another Deity. Not as in a Divine God of the ______-____, just any Deity Creature. Something that would be banned in any other game. A card to rule all else.
No, not really, but think about a Deity Creature.
Aarikku
The boss card for the Knights already exists. And I don't like making Secret Rares out of cards that some decks might need 4 of. I have an idea, but it's used at the end of The Shmod Saga II, so I don't want to spoil it.
The set also features Art supplies, Snails and Skeletons, btw.
Aarikku
Pack image is finally done. [Strike of Emperor] turned out to be a three-day style art.
Naardaas
Hmmm... interesting. A conglomoration of cards that look really good. I like it.
Aarikku
Thanks. Incidentally, Molluskor is now officially an Emperor.
Naardaas
So... you got anymore new cards?
BTW, sorry I haven't been online much lately. I've got a full-time job with my dad during the week now.
Pyrah
I've been working steadily with the cards I'm working on. My only problem is my mom has plans for the entire August. I'm barely home.
Naardaas
Good to know, but you should've posted that in [The Project of Re-Arting Brian's Cards]. This is solely new stuff, no redos.
Aarikku
True. Though the latest download of Lackey has the option for alternate arts, so I might sneak in a new picture for Noble Dragon or Chimera of Fate sometime. Probably not here, though.
Naardaas
Yes. Anyway, as for my question, any new cards for the set?
Aarikku
Sure. Here's a guy with a big sword yelling for some reason.
Naardaas
Ah, the prodigal card guru lets forth his newest creation. I like it. That all you got?!
Aarikku
That's not my newest creation. I made that just after we finalized Lightning-Armoured Chimera's new text. By which I mean I colourshopped it then - its first sketch was around the time of Tora.
Naardaas
Very well then.
So, is this Knight due to make a [Cards With a Vengeance] appearance anytime soon?
Aarikku
Not that I know of.
Naardaas
Holy [censored]! That Colony Warrior looks [censored] awesome!
Aarikku
Here's some support for everyone's favourite Dark mascot:
And an alternate-art reprint of the Great Pumpkin himself, since he's not actually in any set so far.

Did I post that here? I can't remember...
Aarikku
No, I did.
Pyrah
I see, was it posted in this thread? I'll go look for it.
Naardaas
Apparently, the almighty shapeshifter forgot to put it in with the others.
Pyrah
Hee hee hee, found it.
Naardaas
You did an amazing job on it Pyrah. Perhaps you could give JenovaAlchemist some art pointers. He's okay, but he's below you and I. No offense if you're reading this man, but it's true.
Pyrah
Thank you. I do hope to become a well known if not famous artist someday. I prefer the traditional medium rather than the digital because I'm still learning Photoshop; so until I become more proficient with it, I won't be doing anymore Shmod art in Photoshop.
I wanted to post two WIPs, but now even my scanner won't work. This sucks.
Naardaas
I prefer the traditional medium as well, though for a different reason; I prefer to be involved spiritually in my art, something I find difficult to achieve with a machine.
Pyrah
I'd like to see some of JenovaAlchemist's art before I make pointers for him.
Naardaas
That might take awhile, but I appreciate that Pyrah, and I'm sure he will be as well.
Pyrah
I have patience, and am willing to wait. I just hope that he's willing to take any advice I give.
Naardaas

He's a lot different from my other friends. He's actually open-minded, as opposed to mindless.
