Set 004: Evolutionary Strategies
Your opponents are growing stronger. It is time to create new battle tactics. The pun's definitely intended with the new archetype of evolving Tadpoles into Kevin's mighty frog warriors. Also included in this set are statues that allow you to search out missing pieces of combos, as well as themed revival cards. Finally, see a sneak peek at cards from The Shmod Saga II: Cards with a Vengeance!

I like the idea of organizing the cards into sets like this, but don't you think this might be a waste of time? As you've pointed out before, almost nobody actually goes on LackeyCCG for this.
Aarikku
I already had them organized into sets, and if I start manufacturing them (big if...) they'll have to be. So it's better to start early.
Naardaas
I guess I'll have to work on some Apocalypse cards to get them here. If my design transfers well, Aarmahs would look great on a pack cover.
Aarikku
The problem with your cards on pack covers is that the background's attached to the monster. See, in Photoshop, I leave the background and foreground on separate layers. Sometimes, even parts of the same creature are on different layers.
Naardaas
Well that kinda sucks. But I'm still gonna do some Apocalypse cards for a set.
Aarikku
No problem.
I can also make smaller Premium Pack-ish sets, if you want to have one to yourself. I made a tiny one for some of Bryan's better cards, keeping their original art.
Naardaas
The only thing I have to insist upon is being able to make Moltens, and possibly (for now) Warlord Dragon itself.
Aarikku
You could make some sort of Shmod: Apocalypse pack. I mean, a few Apocalypse cards are in my sets, but you could easily throw Foxes, Scorpions, Warlord Dragon, Rootwater stuff and the remaining Post-Apocalypse cards in one.
Naardaas
I like that idea. I almost thought of calling it "Apocalypse Now", but I'm pretty sure that's Copyright infringement. I'll think of a name.
Aarikku
Heh... I just noticed how similar the pictures of Tetra Incantation and Archmage Merlin are.
Naardaas
Yeah, no kidding. Maybe you were running low on poses.
Aarikku
Hokay - Blazestorm Knight has a completely different effect. It wasn't cheap before, I just didn't like it.
Also, I propose the change of [Art of the Crescent Moon] and [Art of the Rising Sun] to Level 4. Votes on that?
Naardaas
I vote not. As it is you lose 2 Creatures, one you had in play and one you could have played, and three Mana. That's a healthy investment, and the cards are fair.
Aarikku
The problem is that it can easily lead to Deities - one of whom can destroy everything in play every turn and the other can revive most of the time - by turn 3.
Naardaas
You're assuming they can keep their FIRE or WATER creature in play that long. Even if you use the WATER beaststick Rootwater Crocodile, that's still killable by quite a few things.
Besides, your primary concern is with Lunor, the Chaos Emperor Dragon of this game. Which you know it is. Sola is immortal, but that's more annoying than devastating. Maybe that's okay for Crescent Moon, but Rising Sun isn't too bad.
Aarikku
Lunor's not really a Chaos Emperor Dragon. It doesn't end the game by itself, especially since using its effect means that you can't inflict more than 1 damage that turn. It'd take you 10 turns to win with just Lunor, and your opponent... wow, we need more simple destruction cards.
Anywho, Sola plain won't die. And it's got 5000 ATK. I know that doesn't seem impossible when every other card you invent has a way to top that, but consider the decktypes that aren't made purely of Level 3+ cards. Some decks plain can't reach 5000 ATK.
Aarikku
Also, one more little change for Blazestorm:
I added the 'Knight' category, which I'll be supporting soon. And also, it's no longer a 'nomi' - pardon my Yugioh term. 'Cuz let's face it, a 3000/3000 Level 4 monster that doesn't get its effect isn't threatening.
Naardaas
This makes... {twice?} you've changed Blazestorm. It's good as it is, so do us all a favour and leave it at that.
And you make a good point about the Deities, but still - Three Mana and two Creatures for one seems fairly balanced. I still think it's safe as is.
Aarikku
Oh no. I changed a card twice. You have no idea how many changes it took to make Divine God of the Sun - Sola. Originally, it was Solar Lizard support.
Naardaas
No kidding. Well then why did you change it? We wouldn't be having this discussion if you had left it as it was
Aarikku
A few reasons...
1) I wanted to make one Divine God for each Type (except Colourless) that would help their Type. Thus, a themed Deity seemed like a bad idea.
2) It was quite weak back in the day. A Level 4 3600-ATK monster. Then you started making these crazy Level 5+ dragons, and I didn't want the Gods to be weaker than non-Gods.
3) LIGHT was the weakest type. It needed support that wasn't Solar Lizard.
Naardaas
If you want Deities for each theme, you're missing a few. I think WATER could benefit from one, but if I make Rootwater Leviatha it may not need one. We'll soon see.
Aarikku
I've got 'em all planned.
And no, Rootwater Leviathan (a Combination monster for an Archetype) doesn't cut it.
And what are you talking about? Waters can use Lunor.
Naardaas
I don't mean one they can use; I mean one that is WATER type.
Aarikku
It doesn't matter what type it is once it's on the field.
Aarikku
Okay - Lightning-Armoured Chimera is now updated. If the picture in the list still has the old effect, just refresh a couple times.
Aarikku
New art for Crustacean Courage! This was originally a doodle on a math sheet. I didn't like the old one because Sigma Dragon was just copied and pasted from... Sigma Dragon.
Spoiler: Coral Crab wins.
Naardaas
The new one has Sand Castle in the background too.
Aarikku
That it does.
Aarikku
[Post-Apocalyptic Dragon - Naardaas] has been replaced with [The Puppetmaster], to keep this set complete while Naardaas gets a fixup and so that 'Timeline' isn't too full of Dark cards.
Naardaas
It can thus go in Armageddon, along with Aarmahs. Which is turning out waaaay different than I planned.
Aarikku
[Majestic Bullfrog]'s picture and flavour text has been changed to lessen confusion between it and Kinogaeru.
Naardaas
Who would get them confused?
Aarikku
You did, when you were deciphering Sapphire Frog. And that was before Kinogaeru was even a Shmod card.
Naardaas
That's because I didn't even know about Majestic Bullfrog. And the short, squat Sapphire did look more like Kinogaeru to me after I did see it.
Aarikku
*shrug* You asked.
Naardaas
Yeah I did. I never said I didn't deserve your answer; I just explained myself.
Aarikku
You seemed offended.
Naardaas
What? Offended? There's nothing offensive about that thought.
Aarikku
Okay then. I think we're done here.
Naardaas
Until the next change in one of your cards.
Aarikku
Maybe Combustiploder Cannon. *shrug*
Naardaas
Pourquoi, monsieur?
Aarikku
Well, the fact that it can kill your opponent in one attack under certain conditions may be a problem. And if it doesn't, you'll have three more. 'Course, if you don't, you have a Level 5 3000/3000...
Naardaas
...that you can only play from your hand. I believe you added that condition to it, didn't you?
And, of course, at turn 5, many decks will have monsters out that make the Cannon puny. That basically rules out a direct attack.
So, I think it's fine.
Aarikku
Ah, yes. I added a "This card cannot be played from the Graveyard", but forgot to upload the new version. Corrected, and thus kinda sorta maybe balanced.
Naardaas
Alrighty then. Anything else you wanna dispute from your set?
Aarikku
Nah, I'm good.
Naardaas
Alright. Guess that means we can go back to discussing Timeline.
Aarikku
Yes it does.
