A Contest

The contest is simple - pick an Archetype, that is, a group of cards with a specific category/strategy/name thingy, and make one card of support. Best one gets art'd and into the game.

Assuming that the best card is itself good.

Try not to pick something like Virtual (all of whom are my personal creations). Also, points for originality. (As in, no points for making a new Dragon)

I don't really see the logic in making a contest for the one person who frequents this site, but ah well. Let's see what you've got.
Naardaas

Dude, how do we log in without the password?
Aarikku

Fixed it! I now have a Public gallery. And remember - if there's two of the same card, the newer-looking one's the right one.
Naardaas

Okay. Now then, what is it you want for the card? Just the effect and such, 'cause if you don't need art I could come up with about 3 dozen cards.
Aarikku

No art necessary. If it's an Archetype I've made, I should be able to do the art for any new ones.
Naardaas

Does that include the cards of Brian/Espeon, who has yet to be seen in this realm again?

Also, I noticed that Cobalt Wyvern and Nightmare Blood are missing from your PhotoBucket page.
Aarikku

Let's stick to my Archetypes. If I end up manufacturing Shmod, I probably won't be using Bryan's cards.

And I know I haven't uploaded every card, but that's not really that important.
Naardaas

Then voila, my Card Submissions. In order to make this work out better, I need to add another card to it.

(Level Three) Balloon Lion (Storm)
Category: Balloon Animal - Beast
Effect: When this card is played, Scrap up to 2 Balloon Animals from your hand and draw that many cards +1. Tap (X) to destroy this card and play (X) Balloon Animals from your Deck or Hand.
ATK/ 3000
DEF/ 2000

(Level Five) Balloon Chimera (Storm)
Category: (C) Balloon Animal - Chimera
Effect: [Balloon Dragon] + [Balloon Lion] + [Balloon Snake]
When this card is fused, return up to 4 Balloon Animals from your discard pile to your deck. +200 ATK for each Balloon Animal in your discard pile. Tap (1) to destroy this card and play up to 2 Balloon Animals from your Deck or Hand.
ATK/ 4200
DEF/ 4000
Aarikku

Though I do like the idea, I'm not liking the idea of ripping off Chimeratech Overdragon again.

Retry?
Naardaas

H'kay. This any better?
Aarikku

Not really. Gameplay-wise, it's still a lot like Chimeratech.
Naardaas

Well, I dont gve up, so I'ma give it another try.
Aarikku

Neh. It's okay. Nothing spectacular.
Naardaas

Dude, you're giving me a headache here. I liked it a moment ago when you actually told me what you disliked. Tell me what you don't like here and I'll fix it.
Aarikku

There's nothing wrong with it. It's just average.
Naardaas

Then that's what's wrong with it. Average sucks. I gotta make the cards more powerful.
Aarikku

If you do, then the entire game becomes just a mad race to summon a powerful card.
Naardaas

Look, I'm just trying to please you. You won't make any cards I create that are just average because you expect more than that from me. But when I try to make something more stellar, you shoot down my idea. That's kinda frustrating.
Aarikku

Making card games is hard work.
Naardaas

A game is hard work. Kinda ironic when you think about it.

Do you still intend to actually print these cards?
Aarikku

I've mulled the idea over. I have 200-odd sheets of high-quality card paper, a nice printer and enough cards to make somewhere around three booster sets. But I've run into the following problems:

1) Unfinished cards, or just cards with bad art. Most of Pyrah's are just sketches that I poorly imposed into the nice card format. And all of Bryan's are pretty bad (which unfortunately make up about 90/350 cards). Then there's yours, which look really good compared to Bryan's, but still a little unprofessional. No offense.

2) Sizing things. Photoshop is a tricky beast when it comes to printing. Sometimes it works perfectly, and sometimes I end up with a Noble Dragon the size of an entire sheet of paper.

3) Cutting. A real card game would need cards of the exact same size. I don't know how to cut everything perfectly.

4) Packaging. Obviously I can't make booster pack wrappers, and if I use, say, envelopes, it'll look unprofessional.

5) Who's gonna buy it? I could probably sell a box to the flea market for pretty cheap, but Kingston's not a huge card game market.

No offense taken on the remark. I've actually had my own best friends say they disliked my art because it was too complex for them. Then again, these are people who spend hours at a time arguing over who won at Halo 2 last night; thick as concrete.

The Photoshop thing, yyyyeah. That's gonna be a real problem, since noone wants playing cards the size of the DeathNote. Althoigh, you could use those as mini-posters.

Cutting, well... I'm pretty sure they make cutting template machines that can cut items in perfect grids. They'd be perfect, if a little costly, but not too bad for hand-operated ones.

Packagins, let's see. What to do. Perhaps, while it's not very professional, folded and pressed sheets of foil?! I know, kinda a bad idea, but if you have a better idea I'm all ears.

The market thing, that's by far the biggest problem. The flea market isn't exactly AnimeNorth. But, you're probably not going to relocate just to sell cards. I'm stuck here.
Or, alternatively, just make them for personal use. Then again, there's Lackey for that, but when's the last time that happened? Personally, I'd buy the cards, provided they're reasonably priced.
Aarikku

Folded and pressed foil... I never actually thought of using foil. I figured envelopes would be best, albeit - as I said - unprofessional, but at least I'd be able to print on it.

Also, your art can get a little complex. Remember your Naardaases?

I suppose I could just print off a couple decks, but it seems like such a waste to have come up with 200+ cards and only use two archetypes-worth.
Naardaas

You disliked the colour scheme on my first one. The second one looked better. And neither of them looks anything like what you settled on.

And as for the decks, you probably have enough archetypes to make a deck for each one.

And I just thought of this; if you want I could re-art some of Brian's cards. Seems to me it's a waste to discard 90 cards on shotty artmanship. If such a word exists
Aarikku

I dunno. Honestly, I'd rather get the reartting done by those of us with Photoshop. But Pyrah is extremely lazy when it comes to such things...

Okay. I'm all for a massive re-arting project of Bryan's cards. I'll take some too.
Naardaas

YEE-HAW!

Just tell me which ones to do and I'll fix 'em right up!
Aarikku

Lets move this to the art forum, actually. I'll start a new thread there.
Naardaas

Fine by me.
