(Level Six) Divine God of the Moon - Lunor (Dark)

Okay, whatever.

Both Deities can be summoned one of two ways: a Level 3 Spell that sends 2 Untapped Mana to the Graveyard or a Level Three Spell that sends 2 Monsters (one from the hand and field each) to the Graveyard. This means that the minimum turn on which either Deity can be played is Turn Three.

The first Spell will send you two turns backwards in Mana, and the other (which is very unlikely to do in the minimum time) will hurt your monster resources. So what do you get for these trades?

Sola gives you a near-invincible monster. 5000 is only beatable by Sigma Dragon, Omega Ninth Dragon and Post-Apocalyptic Dragon - Naardaas, though Titanium Dragon will likely be able to do the same. Destroying Sola with [Weak Point], [Sar-Chasm] (also unlikely) or [Dragon Fire] will only stop Sola until the End Phase. So how do you kill it?

1) Graveflinger. An older card that makes a good sideboard option when battling graveyard-dependant cards. This does rely on a two-card combo (Flinger and likely Weak Point), but it sends Sola back into the deck where it'll need to be summoned again by a Spell.

2) Monster Bash. This is ideal; one Mana can end your problems right then and there.

3) Yoink!. It costs 5 Mana and if Yoink! is destroyed, your opponent will revive Sola later.

4) Battle. But as mentioned earlier, only a handful of cards can actually do that.

5) Vanishing. It's not a common effect in Shmod, but [Black Hole Dragon] combined with a monster destruction card will end your problems right then and there.

Considering that against many decktypes, a Sola means assured victory, I award it with a 4.5/5 - the highest number I normally award. On to Lunor!

Whereas Sola represents revival, Lunor represents destruction. It can be summoned with the same speed as its partner, but what do you get in return? The destruction effect ensures that you'll be able to attack directly each turn. So Lunor will end the game in 10 turns. However, whereas a mere handful of cards can destroy Sola, a simple [Weak Point] is all that's needed to topple the frog.

Lunor's simple. A very high ATK means it likely will never die by battle. The destruction gives it a sort of Trap Immunity, though it can be brought down by any Spell. It'll get a 4/5. Both the Deities are really good cards, and any LIGHT, DARK, FIRE or WATER deck would benefit from trying to incorporate them.

Very good points Aarikku, but one inconsistency:

I believe Yoink! would cost 6 Mana to take a Deity.

Anyway, as you mentioned, either summon method costs you 5 cards. Ouch! Which gives you pretty big incentive to make that Deity do its job.

Sola is basically immortal. Save for Graveyard manipulation and battle, your opponent will be screwed if you keep the card around - especially if you manage to pump it. However, it can still be bested, as unlikely as that may be, and for that reason it is not broken. 4.5/5 seems like a good rating.

Lunor is the Celestial opposite of Sola, as you mentioned. Your opponent could always take it away from you with Yoink! - if they're stupid, because they'd blow up their creature and lost attacking privelages in the process. Apart from that, it is vulnerable to destruction effects and battle, and once it's gone it's gone for good. For this reason, I put it just a sliver below your rating - 3.9/5.

And, if you get unbelievable lucky and summon BOTH Deities in the same game at the same ime, Lunor can destroy all cards and Sola comes back for an encore. So, in that unlikely occurence, it gets a 4.5/5, because it is still bestable after all.

And for the record, this won't be my last Card Review write-up.

Well make sure you do it right. I had to add the 'Frog' category for Lunor and change its type to Dark.

What? Oh, crap. I tried duplicating Sola's write-up for Lunor, and I guess I overlooked that somehow. Sorry 'bout that.
